crossing over

My little girl is growing up so fast. I can't stand it. I like the idea of putting a brick on her head to slow her down, anyway. Last week she "crossed over" from a Brownie to a Girl Scout. It was a lovely ceremony and I was so proud of her for carrying the flag. When I told her she must feel so honored to be chosen to carry the flag she said, "no mom, we just did rock paper scissors to figure it out." OK. Well, I was proud of her anyway. I don't have a picture of her in her new sash because all the pictures are of her and other girls, do you ever worry about putting other people's kids on your blog? Just wondering.
As for the sash. It was an ordeal. I literally had to drive to the one Girl Scout store in Cincinnati (a bit of a drive from me) the day before the ceremony because our leader kind of forgot to tell us about it in what was enough time for me to go any sooner. Besides that it was quite a nice surprise when I discovered the best invention in the world. Yes. The BEST! It is called "Badge Magic" and you must get some if you have a scout. You MUST! Please. I am begging you.

I cannot tell you how many hours (and hours, and hours) I have stayed up late trying to sew patches on her Brownie vest. I had to sew them on because the "iron on" patches did not stick. I used to dread when the girls would earn a new badge. "Oh, crap, I have to try to figure out how to find time to sew that thing on" was always my first thought, not "congratulations!" How terrible. Our troop girls were quite "into" the whole patch thing so I felt like I had to do it. You know how that is, you do things for your kids so they won't be mortified that you didn't.

Back to Badge Magic, the best stuff ever. The lovely lady who works at the GS store told me to get it and I was like this, "huh, I don't want to buy any more stuff here, I am already spending like $30 and my baby is cranky because we had to drive forever to get here when you opened on this Saturday morning and I have to go to the grocery and then go home and make lunch for my kids who are home with their Big Tall Daddy and probably driving him crazy." I really said, "Ok, what is it?" She told me it is basically a way to make every patch a really super sticky sticker. And man-o does it work. Good. Awesomely. A life saver for sure. I put all the new pieces on Zoe's sash in about 5 minutes. The lady at the Girl Scout store and the inventor of Badge Magic are my new heroes. I am so mad I didn't have it before.  At the crossing over ceremony I told everyone who would listen about the magic of Badge Magic.  Bring on the patches my new big girl Girl Scout, I'm armed and ready!

Let me know if you want me to pick you up a pack.  ;)

Happy Summer! Congrats to the kids for a job well done at school :)
Way to go Miss Zoe for totally ROCKING the reading award!! Could I send Holden to your house this summer so you can whip him into shape-he would happily read eight words and complain endlessly about even one hundred more-hello frustrating. Keep up the fantastic work girl ;)

I'm a total fan of badge magic. Holden would have NO hope of having a single badge on his cubscout shirt if it wasn't for that stuff. It's awesome.

I told Zach about Zoe's award and he was amazed :)

I have tried the brick on the head for both boys and it doesn't seem to be working. :)

Cute end of the year gifts.

Beautiful picture of Zoe with the flag! Oh I miss my blogging... I've been so lax on writing and reading... Just not in a great place for blogging right now I guess! I still check in and read so no worries my friend !!!

Ok. So I am the leader of my daughter's girl scout troop. We had our bridging ceremony a couple of weeks ago at my house. Wowza! It was quite a party. Anyway, I never trusted badge magic. Darnit! My fingers are still bleeding from sewing Brownie patches! Thanks for the info!

Glad you found the magic stuff! Congrats to Zoe on crossing over! I sometimes wonder what my life would be like if I had a daughter. I know it wouldn't be better...just different.
Hope you're enjoying your start to summer!
